Delicious Homemade Apple Cider

Dec 10, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Delicious Homemade Apple CiderI had mixed feelings about trying this recipe. It definitely sounded delicious but I was afraid that I would be wasting 4 whole hours of my electricity.
That was me on Saturday.
Fast forward to 3 days later as I am typing this post, there is another pot of apple cider just simmering away in my kitchen.
I wanted more. Even Mom encouraged me to make more.
Yup, this is THAT good.
Oh…. did I forget to say hello? Oh well, hello! I know I have been missing but the good news is, I am pretty much finally settled in the new house so you can expect me to be sharing more yummy recipes often. Definitely missed blogging, and definitely missed you guys too. <3
So, back to this Delicious Homemade Apple Cider. It is really simple, all you need are some apples, water and sugar/maple syrup. It is good to use a variety of apples for the best tasting cider. I used a mix of fuji, honey-crisp and granny smith. I added an orange and a stick of cinnamon for extra flavour too.

This apple cider is perfect served hot or icy cold. Personally, I would recommend that you make a big batch, drink it while it is warm and feel all cosy and amazing. Then, keep the rest in the fridge and the next day you would be rewarded with a thirst-quenching and super refreshing drink!  Although this takes hours, it is really a “set-and-forget” kinda recipe. You let the slow cooker for 4 hours on high or 6 hours on low and if you do not have a slow cooker, use a large pot instead and let it simmer for 3 hours or till the apples are all mushy.

There is really something special about this Delicious Homemade Apple Cider.  Go on, try and make a pot of this for Christmas.
I promise your guests would be thrilled! After all the heavy Christmas food, I reckon a warm mug of this would be very soothing for the soul. I bet you would be revisiting this recipe all year long, like how I would (and currently am)!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 litres water
  • 12 apples quartered (I use a mix of honey-crisp, fuji and granny smith)
  • 1 large orange quartered
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (or more, depending on your taste)

Instructions

  1. Place the ingredients in a slow-cooker and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours.
  2. Alternately you can combine everything in a large pot and cook over medium heat for 3 hours or until the apples begin to break down.
  3. Once done, strain the mixture through a mesh strainer, discard the fruit and cinnamon sticks.
  4. Strain twice.
  5. Serve warm or cold.
