Soursop and Basil Seeds Mocktail

Soursop and Basil Seeds Mocktail

I have been blogging more on beverages if you noticed. I mean look at this and this or this avocado smoothie? It is a combination of two things. Cold drinks are LOVELY on a hot hot day. Secondly, during Ramadan, we do crave for all these sweet drinks somehow!

Do you guys know this fruit? OR does it look like an Alien to you?Soursop and Basil Seeds MocktailThis is a soursop people. Repeat after me. SOUR-SOP.

Soursop is widely promoted (sometimes as “graviola”) as an alternative cancer treatment, true or not, I have no answers as I am not a doctor, neither am I a researcher. If searching on Google makes me a researcher then I am definitely a PHD holder.

Well fruits are good for your health and if they happen to be delicious too, then WHY not? Soursop and Basil Seeds Mocktail
I also used basil seeds in the drink. Basil seeds are really good. Basil seeds need to be soaked in water prior to using it. The seeds become gelatinous and are often used in Asian drinks and desserts such asSoursop and Basil Seeds Mocktail

Basil seeds are not just delicious, it is nutritious and has a lot of benefits.

  • It aids in digestion
  • It is a stress reliever.
  • It treats cold.
  • Good for skin infections.
  • Basil seeds are crushed into oil to help in treating infections such as wounds, cuts, etc.

Cool and refreshing, this Soursop and Basil Seeds Mocktail were the prefect combination. I made a huge jug of these. These bottles and polka dotted straws might looked dainty and all but we siblings were far from being quintessential. Imagine a huge pitcher of chilled Soursop and Basil Seeds Mocktail with three very thirsty fellas around that. We sipped and sipped and made some noises that irritated our mommie. 😀 You know those slurpery slurp sounds? Matter of minutes and we are done.

It has become such a habit for me to make a pitcher of cold beverage for my brothers daily and now, every day after Iftar, they would ask “what would we be drinking tonight?”

Spoilt brats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound soursop
  • 1 tablespoon basil seeds
  • 3 glasses of cold water
  • 1/3 cup of sugar – dissolve in 1/3 cup of hot water to form a syrup (You might need more or less depending on the sweetness of your fruit)
  • Crushed Ice

Instructions

  1. Place the basil seeds in a cup of water and let it soak for about two minutes and drain.
  2. Wash the soursop to remove any dirt.
  3. Peel the fruit and set in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Add one cup of water to the fruit in the mixing bowl.
  5. Using a disposable hand glove, squeeze the fruit in the water and remove all the seeds.
  6. At this point, you can either blend the soursop to get it’s pulp or just use your hand to mash it up.
  7. I prefer to use my hands as we loved the yummy soursop bits. If you prefer yours to be smooth, do give it a blend in the food processor.
  8. In a pitcher, combine the soursop pulp, syrup, cold water, drained basil seeds and ice.
  9. This is best served chilled.
