Refreshing Mango Lassi

Aug 21, 2014 · 4 Comments

Refreshing Mango Lassi

I am a cool kinda person. Not that I am clad in Versace or I strut like the kardashians. I just like cool/cold things. Every night when I go to bed, I thank god for the AC. When the Aircon was not working for 2 days, I was all grumpy.

I would choose a glass of cold orange juice over a mug of hot chocolate. I would go with slices of cold watermelon over banana and I would obviously choose ice cream over apple pie. Uhm well, If I could choose, I would take both the apple pie and ice cream. Like WHO eats apple pie without ice cream? I don’t think anyone in their right senses would do that.

Singapore has a tropical rainforest climate with temperatures usually ranging from 22 to 35°C. It is also very humid here and therefore cold drinks are a necessity for me. I do not dream of pizzas or pastas in such humidity. I would usually be thinking of a tall glass of Watermelon and Lychee Mocktail or a cold Avocado Smoothie. I want one right now, not that I would mind having double doses of those or even triple. #Justsaying

Refreshing Mango Lassi

The wise said, a picture paints a thousand words. I think the picture above is worth so much more especially in the kinda heat that I am experiencing. This Refreshing Mango Lassi is the perfect cooler on a hot day. Lassi is a popular yogurt based drink which originated from India. It is not popular among Indians only though, even Jamie Oliver swears by a good Lassi.

Although Lassi comes in different flavors, yet mango lassi is the most popular among all. I believe it is due to the fact that Mangoes grow in abundance in India. Mangoes are not only delicious, they are rich in vitamins, fiber, minerals and pre-biotic too. I prefer to use riped mangoes for lassi as they are generally sweeter and you would need less sugar for the lassi.

Refreshing Mango Lassi

Yogurt, milk, mango and sugar, Yup, just four ingredients. Simple + creamy + yummy and that froth on top.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large fully ripen mangoes – stoned, and sliced
  • 250 ml plain yogurt (I used Greek yogurt)
  • 100 ml cold milk (I used fresh milk)
  • 2 tbsp sugar (depending on the sweetness of the mango)
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place, mango, milk, sugar and yogurt in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Adjust the sweetness if necessary.
  3. Pour into individual glasses.
  4. If you prefer your lassi to be a little diluted, top with some ice.

Notes

If you do not want to add milk to your lassi, feel free to omit the milk. You can replace the milk with some cold water instead.
