Delicious Stovetop Honey Chicken Wings

Hello Lovelies,

Initially I was not sure as to whether I should be sharing this Delicious Stovetop Honey Chicken Wings recipe or not. Although the recipe is delicious, but I did not put in the extra effort in photographing the pictures. It was just a matter of a few clicks of the camera while cooking as I was having some guests over. I do not know if the pictures were tantalizing enough to be shared BUT the recipe is a winner and I decided that sharing is a MUST even if the pictures are pretty mundane.

Both me and my mum enjoy chicken wings more compare to the other meaty parts of the chicken. Although we love our chicken wings fried, I do not consume them often as I do not like the idea of having deep fried food often. Sounds like a health freak aye? Well, you are looking at the same person who has no issues in having ice cream a few times in a week. I choose my battles I guess. Maybe it is also due to the mess that happens whenever you deep fry something. Oil splattering and all that grease on the stove-top. *Shudders*

Anyways, I would mostly grill the chicken wings and Tandoori wings are great! You might want to check my tandoori recipe here. I also love this Delicious Stovetop Honey Chicken Wings recipe that I would be sharing today. It is basically a Chinese-style chicken wings that are seasoned with sesame oil, soy sauce and honey and then flavored with garlic, ginger and chilli flakes. It is usually grilled but today I am going to share a stove-top version which is equally delicious, yet fuss-free . Yup, no scrubbing of baking pans here!

Although these are not grilled, they would still have a beautiful sticky glaze on the wings due to caramelization of the honey. Best of all, you can easily make a big batch of these for a party, without much of an effort. Just prepare these in advance and heat it up before serving.

For this recipe, marinating the chicken wings in advance is not required, which is good for those last minute dinners or guests coming over. Nevertheless, if you prefer to meal prep in advance and marinate the chicken wings, it works perfectly fine that way too. Just place the chicken and the sauces in a zip-lock bag and let it marinate away in the freezer till you are ready to cook it.

These Delicious Honey Chicken Wings is always a hit with my family and friends. They are delicious when eaten with rice as a side dish and these also makes the perfect dish to bring over for a pot luck. These are pretty addictive and you have been warned! Ask me to choose between caramel popcorn and these while watching reruns of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, I would go with the latter in a blink of the eye.

Description

A simple and delicious recipe for Honey Chicken Wings that is prepared over the stovetop.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1kg chicken wings, halved
  • 4 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 garlic, sliced/chopped
  • 2 inch ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt, if required
  • rosemary (optional)

Instructions

  1. Clean the chicken wings thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a non stick pan, add oil and saute ginger and garlic for 1 minute. Add in chilli flakes, rosemary and chicken wings.
  3. Fry for about 5 minutes. Keep turning the chicken wings.
  4. Add the soy sauce, black pepper and sesame oil. Cook for about 10 minutes.
  5. Finally, add the honey and cook for another 10 minutes or till the chicken is cook, dry and sticky. Once you have added the honey, do cook the chicken under low heat as you do not want to burn the chicken wings.
  6. Season with some salt, if required.

    Hi what brand of honey did you use for this recipe? Am i able to cook it in the oven as well?

      Hi. I used Capilano pure honey. You can really use any other brand too. Yes, you can cook this in the oven too. I would suggest that you marinate the chicken overnight to give it more flavor. 🙂

    First ingredient is” chicken wings, halved”

    Do you use all these ingredients to fry half of the wings, then repeat the fry with second.half, or do you pull the wings in half, it ????

      Cut the chicken wings in half so that it cooks faster plus more sauce can coat the wings. You then cook all at once. 🙂

    For advance meal prep, what should be ingrediants for marinating?

      Just mix all the ingredients together (except honey). Keep in the freezer till required. It gets better as the flavor would absorb in the chicken. 🙂

    Does “4 garlic” mean 4 clovers, or 4 full ones? And how big or small should the slices be for both the garlic and the ginger… sorry, I’m new to this cooking thing ^^”

      Hiya. Its 4 cloves of garlic and for the ginger, just cut a 2-inch piece from a whole ginger and sliced it up into 4 slices. Hope this helps and feel free to ask more questions. ?

    Very flavorful, the color was impressive, and the rosemary was a surprisingly great add. The family enjoyed it and it was so easy. There was no marinating and almost no prep on my part because I used bottled fresh garlic and ginger. A lot of fat was rendered from the chicken which was good but it pooled at the end. Maybe this helps with continued frying action. The chicken did not seem oily when served. The kids would prefer boneless meat. I’m wondering how that affects the cooking times.

      Hi Juliet. If you fry it till it dries up, the sauce would be thick and sticky and coat the chicken nicely. Yes, a bit messy on the fingers, but delicious! You can use boneless chicken chunks too. Maybe start with 15 minutes and take it from there.
